Schuko is an abbreviation of the German word Schutz-Kontakt, which means protective contact. The Schuko system is widely used in Europe for sockets and the corresponding plugs. The Schuko plug has two round metal pins for the phase and the neutral.

Euro plugs are mostly used for small electronic devices such as mobile phone chargers, laptops and tablets. Earthed plug: An earthed plug, also known as a CEE 7/4 plug or Schuko plug, has two thin pins and an additional third round pin for earthing.

Type B is related to type A, the difference is that this one, in addition to the two flat pins, has an extra half-round pin and is therefore grounded. The flat pins usually have two holes, through which the plug can click into protrusions on the inside of the socket.

A grounded socket is connected to the ground wire in your power network. If a short circuit occurs somewhere in a device or if current 'leaks', this means that current is applied to the ground wire. A grounded socket absorbs this and then automatically switches off the earth leakage circuit breaker in the house.
